課程概述

This course is task-oriented: each week the students will be given an assignment of integrating the four English skills. For example, the students will be asked to listen to or read some material on the Internet, and then write a summary of and a commentary on such material. Their writings will then be discussed by the teacher and the students together in class to find out the errors for correction. In this way, the four English skills are integrated in the students’ work on the assignments and in class discussions.
In their work to improve their four English skills, the students will be required to enlarge their English vocabulary. It is estimated that a student must have at least 7,000 to 10,000 English concept words (lemmas) in order to successfully carry out the tasks of integrating the four skills. Guidance will be given to help the students enlarge their English vocabulary.
 

課程目標
 This course aims to provide advanced and practical training in integrating the four English skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In actual English communication, the four skills are normally integrated. But in the classroom, these four skills are often taught separately and the students don’t know how to integrate the four skills and make use of them appropriately. This course is designed especially to address this particular problem of the students and is intended to guide them step by step toward an integrated use of the four English skills. 
課程要求
 This is a task-oriented course. Every week each student or each pair/group of students will be assigned a task of integrating the four English skills. There will be quizzes and discussions in class, but no mid-term and final exams.
